> air gun
weapon based on the principle of the primitive blowgun that shoots bullets, pellets, or darts by expansion of compressed air.
> machine gun
automatic weapon of small calibre that is capable of rapid, sustained fire. Most machine guns are belt-fed weapons that fire from 500 to 1,000 rounds per minute and will continue to fire as long as the trigger is held back or until the supply of ammunition is exhausted. The machine gun was developed in the late 19th century and has profoundly altered the character of ...
> antiaircraft gun
artillery piece that is fired from the ground or shipboard in defense against aerial attack. Antiaircraft weapons development began as early as 1910, when the airplane first became an effective weapon. In World War I, field artillery pieces up to about 90 mm (3.5 inches) in calibre were converted to antiaircraft use by mountings that enabled them to fire nearly ...
> MAG machine gun
general-purpose machine gun used primarily as a tank- or vehicle-mounted weapon, although it is also made with a butt and bipod for infantry use. Manufactured by Belgium's Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN), the MAG was adopted for use by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It is air-cooled and gas-operated; its name is an acronym from the French phrase ...
> Bren machine gun
British adaptation of a Czech light machine gun. Its name originated as an acronym from Brno, where the Czech gun was made, and Enfield, where the British adaptation was made. Gas-operated and air-cooled, the Bren was first produced in 1937 and became one of the most widely used weapons of its type. It was produced in .303 calibre for British use and was manufactured as ...

air force
This is an age of air power, and the military strength of a nation depends in great part upon the effectiveness of its air force. All of the major countries of the world maintain air forces as part of their defense systems. Air power also reaches into outer space, where satellites control modern weapons and communications systems.
War in the Air
from the World War I article
Balloons and airplanes were first used mainly to carry observers. By 1915 photographs of enemy positions were being taken from airplanes. Anthony Fokker, improving on a French device, developed a machine gun for the Germans that was synchronized to fire through the whirling propeller of a flying plane.
HISTORY OF AIR POWER
   from the air force article
Air power has been used for military purposes since the late 18th century. Although the Chinese may have used huge kites some 2,000 years ago to lift men into the skies for military reconnaissance, the first practical aircraft was the hot-air balloon invented by the brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier of France in 1783. This balloon was capable of ...
How Air and Space Vehicles Are Built
   from the aerospace industry article
Vehicles that travel through the air or through space have the same basic structure—an airframe, engine, and supporting equipment (see airplane). A jet airplane has many thousands of parts. It therefore takes a long time—at least four or five years—to initiate, develop, and produce an aerospace vehicle.
Tapping the furnace.
from the iron and steel industry article
About every four hours a worker drills a clay plug that stops an opening, or taphole, at the base of the hearth. This process is called tapping the furnace, and it is done to draw off molten iron. The iron flows through a clay-lined runner. The taphole is then plugged with fresh clay shot from an air-pressure gun.

While other manufacturers struggle to break 1200 feet per second in .177, the new Airforce Condor easily achieves 1250 feet per second in .22 caliber making it the most powerful production pellet gun known in this caliber.  An integral extended scope rail allows easy mounting of the largest air gun scopes or other specialized optical sighting devices.  Additional dovetail rails allow mounting lasers, bipods and other accessories to provide the shooter with an adaptive air gun shooting system.  Designed for air gun hunting in the growing number of states that allow it, this system can also be used by military and law enforcement agencies for pest control or special tactical applications.

The new Airforce Condor follows on the heels of the companys earlier line of pre-charged, single-shot pneumatic air rifles. The Condor propels a .22-cal. pellet at 1250 f.p.s , and its designed for pest-control agencies, the military, and hunting in the numerous states that allow it.
Pushing the bolt handle forward cocks the rifle and activates the safety switch. With the bolt handle forward, the breech is opened for the manual loading of another pellet. Once the Condor is reloaded, the bolt handle must be pulled back and turned left or right to close the action.
Measuring 38 3/4" in overall length, the air rifle breaks down for storage or transportation by unscrewing its 490-cc air tank. The DOT-certified aluminum air tank can be filled to 3,000 p.s.i. (206 bar) by a scuba tank or by a hand pump available from the manufacturer. During testing, we fired nearly 20 shots at 50 yds. on power setting 8 before noticing a significant drop on target impact. The power setting determines the amount of compressed air released, and it can be reduced or increased to suit the shooters needs via the regulating thumb wheel release on the left side of the rifles body above the fore-end.
We found the two-stage trigger to be smooth through the shot break, and noted that it may be adjusted for position. It isnt adjustable for weight, however, and one must push the stiff automatic-trigger safety (forward) to the off position prior to each shot.
The Condor comes with an integral scope rail that allows easy mounting of a variety of optical devices. An optional Airforce high-definition 4-16x50 mm scope came with our sample and offered an adjustable objective and target knobs with 1/4-minute clicks.
Additional dovetail rails on the receiver and in front of the fore-end grip allow the shooter to attach optional accessories, such as Airforces waterproof/shockproof lasers and bipods. Each Airforce airgun comes with a detailed owners manual and informational videotape that should be viewed before firing.
Delivering a variety of quality lead pellets from the 24" precision-rifled barrel, the Condor produced accurate results. Airforce indicates, The Condor is made for power. Although shooting a 14.3-gr., .22-cal. pellet at 1250 f.p.s. was no challenge for the Condor, best accuracy was difficult at the maximum setting, and we managed only 17 shots before having to refill the tank. We found that reducing the velocity to 1000 f.p.s. produced superb results. At the lowest setting, a pellet moves downrange at 600 f.p.s. Considering the potency of this rifle, it isnt surprising to note that it emits a loud report when discharged.
Three different pellet types fired from the Condor, zeroed at 50 yds., averaged only a 5" drop at 100 yds. with velocities dropping just 19 f.p.s. Our best group at 50 yds. was obtained using a 14.3-gr. Diablo Exact round-nose pellet with a five-shot average measuring 1.40". At 10 meters, Beeman Kodiak pellets made five ragged holes from five-shot groups with an average measurement of 0.21".
The Condors performance in the field convinced us of the viability and capability of its design. We also learned that this air rifle has been used in conjunction with the war on terror. A special operations sailor told us these air rifles have been used in Iraq to disable streetlights for mission support.
While assessing its capabilities, we found this air rifle easily capable of taking small game out to 75 yds. Considering the wide range of uses it has already seen, and its quality construction, the Airforce Condor deserves serious consideration from anyone interested in an all-around, high-velocity air rifle.
